2024-2025 Renovation

Kitchen & Laundry

To revamp and renovate a family kitchen and laundry, as well as creating a tidy and neat space to enter the house from the garage - through the laundry.

The Brief:

After

Observations:

  1. The kitchen suffered from a lack of storage, which is particularly noticeable in the smaller pantry.

  2. The overall style of the space feels outdated and no longer aligns with contemporary design trends.

  3. The door leading into the laundry room creates a cramped area and obstructs access to the sink and cupboards behind it.

  4. A structural column was not considered or integrated into the final design, resulting in an unavoidable, unintentional, and visually unappealing focal point.

  5. The lighting throughout the kitchen is outdated and does not provide sufficient brightness or practical task lighting for daily use.

Our Approach:

  1. Cupboards were added to the outside of the island to increase storage, and a new wine fridge was installed at one end.

  2. A fresh palette was introduced making the space feel brighter and larger, while complementing existing floor tiles. The palette included shades of white, teal, soft grey, warm woodgrain, and striking gunmetal handles.

  3. The existing laundry door was replaced with a frosted glass pocket door, saving space and providing more natural light into the spaces.

  4. The structural column was reimagined as an intentional feature, highlighted with fun but subtle kitkat tiles, integrated seamlessly into the design.

  5. Ceiling-mounted cylinder lighting, contrasting black task track lighting, and elegant LED strips provide multiple lighting options, offering both daylight-mimicking and ambient illumination.

  6. Harsh angles were reduced and curves introduced, marrying well with the existing column, and adding a modern sense of balance to the space.
